Fall is officially here and even though it still isn’t very “cool” outside, the cooler temperatures are coming and that is reason to celebrate! Every year, as fall sets in, the first thing most people think of (besides cooler temps) is color. The yellows, oranges and reds don’t stick around for long, but when they do, you can’t help but look at your surroundings and relax a little bit more! One of the best places to see these fall colors is the Black Rock Mountain State Park, Georgia’s highest state park, in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
There is a lot more to do at Black Mountain State Park than gaze at the surroundings (although that is reason enough to visit!). The park includes four hiking trails that lead you past wildflowers, streams waterfalls and orests. There is also a small lake that has a easy walking trail around it. And, with the cooler, fall temperatures, you are bound to enjoy taking in the crisp air along the picture-perfect landscapes! The lake allows fishing, canoeing and kayaking as well if water activities are more your style.
The park also hosts different events throughout the fall. The Tri-State Hike is a 2.2 mile nature hike through Tennessee Rock Trail. The hike is full of wildflower filled forests and also includes an overlook where you can see from North Carolina to Tennessee. Make sure to bring your camera (or phone or camera phone) because this view is guaranteed to be Instagram-worthy!
Now, let's get to the camping! There are 44 campsites nestled within the trees and 4 backcountry campsites, if that is more your thing. They do warn that because this is Georgia’s highest park (3,640 feet to be exact), there are quite a few steep and winding roads you have to drive on.
So, have we convinced you yet? If you still need a little push, just think of gathering around the campfire with friends and family, eating s’mores.. Does that help? Whether you visit Black Rock Mountain State Park or go camping at your local campground, be sure to get out this fall and enjoy the weather and changing colors. And, remember, if you need service or support, just give us a call!
