It’s almost Memorial Day, and that means camping season is in full swing!
Memorial Day weekend is one of the most popular weekends for family getaways to the lake or favorite camping destination. If you are planning a family trip this Memorial Day weekend, read on for ways to be prepared!
No one likes forgetting things or not being prepared for a road trip. That is why we are here to help!
In three easy steps you will be ready to concur the weekend and make sure your family has the most fun possible.
1. Where to Go?
The first step to a successful family trip is to make sure everyone gets involved in the planning of the destination. This is critical because if the family is divided on where to go, it could cause a rift in the trip before it even begins!
Start by having all family members write out where they want to go from a list of 3 destinations. Tally up the votes and if the family is split, have an open discussion about where the trip will be held. Once the decision is reached, let the trip planning begin!
2. Plan out your Days
Now some families like to just wing it when on a road trip, and that is completely fine. But some families are planners, who like to know what they are going to do every day so they can plan accordingly.
Planning out the days can help with packing, as well as give you a better idea of how long your day will be and when you will need to schedule in lunch and dinner and other activities.
This is another place where discussion is good about what things you should do. Will you be outside a lot? Will you be visiting places that cost money? These are all things that planning can give you a jumpstart on so that there will be no surprises when you arrive at your destination.
After the plannign stage, the last stage is the dreaded packing!
3. Pack Accordingly
If you are taking your trip in an RV, packing is key to a successful trip. One of the more important things to pack besides your clothes is food. Traveling in an RV gives you the chance to save a lot of money on food, so pack accordingly!
Other things to consider when packing for a weekend away include but are certainly not limited to:
- Bedding: pillows, extra blankets, sheets, sleeping bags
- Toiletries and bath items
- Map and/or GPS device just in case you can’t find your way
