Summer is in full swing and it can not be any hotter out there. Getting outside, playing in the sun and having fun is great, but when it’s just too hot and you need to cool off and get out of the sun, you will want your RV to be that cool retreat. Here are our tips and tricks to keep your RV cool this summer!

    1. Strategically park your camper to take advantage of any shade that is available, especially on the side where the refrigerator vent is located. Don’t be afraid to ask for a shady RV site when you check in at a campground. This will help keep your RV cool, while also allowing the refrigerator and A/C work more efficiently.

    2. Make sure to keep your A/C filters clean- this will help to improve the A/C’s efficiency. You may also want to keep some new filters on hand in case you need to replace an old one.

    3. Use your main patio awning and any window awnings and curtains to keep the sun’s harsh rays out. This will also help keep cool air in your RV.

    4. You can install a thermostatically controlled refrigerator vent fan at the back of the refrigerator or at the top of the fridge roof vent, to assist with drafting the hot air away from the fridge. This can improve fridge performance up to 40%.

    5. Proper ventilation is also important. This prevents excess heat from building up in your RV. You can instal vent covers over the roof vents to allow for ventilation. They are inexpensive, easy to instal and they let fresh air in, even when it's raining. All the while, smoke, cooking odors, heat and stale air escapes. Cross ventilation is important.

    6. Lastly, try to keep doors to the outside closed as much as possible and try to avoid keeping the fridge doors open for too long. You can also cook outside rather than inside to prevent the RV from warming up due to the cooking heat.
