As the weather continues to warm up, more and more RVs will make there way out from storage and onto the road! In Georgia alone there are thousands of campsites available to reserve at 50 different state parks and historic sites. With that giant variety of camping options, there is sure to be a place for you to explore. Here are some things that we think you should know about camping in Georgia this season!
With so many different options, checking out what is available online can be very helpful when planning out your next trip to a Georgia State Park. Guests can request cabins with amazing views, modern campgrounds with showers, glamping yurts, lodges and more!
One of the many great features that Georgia State Parks offers is online reservations for their campsites. Guests can reserve a spot at any state park up to 13 months in advance, giving you and your crew plenty of time to scout out and see what is available. Once you have decided on where you are wanting to go, here is a list of things you will need before making a reservation with Georgia State Parks:
- name of the park where you will be camping
- dates you want to reserve
- type of campsite needed
- type and size of camping unit you will be using (fifth wheel, travel trailer, etc.)
- number of people who will be camping
- debit/credit card
Explore the Entire Park
Georgia has so many amazing state parks that offer tons of different sceneries and activities. Planning out your RV vacation is not only something fun to do, it can give you insight as to what everyone wants to do, which will make picking a park that much easier! Whether you want to fish, golf, be on the water or hike, each state park has something different and unique to offer.
When planning a trip to a park, try to do a variety of activities to prevent monotony. Hike one day, fish another, try to work in a unique activity such as horseback riding or geocaching as well! Too often on trips you hear, “Do we have to do that, that sounds boring?” If you plan your trip early with everyone present and commit to trying different activities, everyone should be happy!
There are tons of amazing state parks in Georgia, but here are some that we here at CSRA Camperland recommend for you and your crew this camping season!
Tallulah Gorge State Park
One of the prettiest canyons in the country is right here in the state of Georgia! Tallulah Gorge, located in north east Georgia, is a can’t miss vacation spot this year! Whether you want to hike on the 20 miles of trail or take in the breathtaking views from the Suspension Bridge, Tallulah Gorge has it all! Waterfalls, rivers, lush forest and plenty more await you in one of Georgia’s most beautiful state parks. Other activities available at Tallulah Gorge include:

Camping in Tallulah Gorge is a beautiful experience that you can have in numerous ways. There are 50 campsites available that are operated by Georgia Power. There is also a Pioneer Campground and three backcountry shelters. These can be reserved online through Georgia State Parks.
Cloudland Canyon State Park
One of the more intriguing state parks in Georgia is Cloudland Canyon. Located in the Northwest tip of Georgia on the west edge of Lookout Mountain, Cloudland Canyon offers amazing geography, waterfalls, caves and more. If you are looking for amazing scenery while also tons of great activities, Cloudland Canyon is your park! Here are some of the things you can expect to see and do at Cloudland Canyon:
- Family friendly cave tours (YOU WILL GET MUDDY)
- Horseback riding
- Disc golf
- Mountain biking
- Pond fishing
Camping in Cloudland Canyon offers a variety of types of camping. One of the most unique offerings are there glamping yurts, which are modern cabins that are located throughout the park in very scenic environments. In addition to the 10 glamping yurts, they also have these shelters available:
- 16 Cottages
- 72 Campsites
- 30 Walk-in Campsites
- 13 Backcountry Campsites
- Pioneer Campground
- Group Lodge (sleeps 40)
