Georgia State Parks Free Admission Day
Now that the kids are back in school your camping getaways are mostly restricted to weekends from now on. That’s okay. There is plenty to get out and see and do in a weekend; and what better way to spend your weekend than getting out and exploring the state parks in your own back yard! And the best part? It’s FREE! … At least for one day.
Saturday, September 27th is “Your State Parks Day” in the great state of Georgia. State parks and Historic Sites are offering free parking and admission on this day, sponsored by the Friends of Georgia State Parks and Historical Sites, in hopes to raise awareness of the importance of volunteering and the many ways that recreation is good for the mind, body and soul of the community. State parks and national historic sites across the state will feature several different events for volunteers and families to get involved and take part in.
Mistletoe State Park in Appling, GA is hosting a Volunteer Trails Day for the “Your State Parks Day” event, among other events. Volunteers are encouraged to come and help clean up the park and restore it to its natural beauty. Picking up trash, trimming back shrubs along the paths, and removing fallen trees are just a few of the examples of projects they are asking of their volunteers. Come on out and lend a hand to keep your state beautiful.
