Remember back when you were a kid and you would build all kinds of forts and homemade swings? Those were the days!
If only you could go back to when life was that simple.
Now that we’re in the "swing" of summer and Independence Day is fast approaching, why not relive those days and build some awesome homemade yard equipment?
With that in mind, we’re going to give you step-by-step instructions on how to build your very own tire swing!
How to Build A Tire Swing
Step 1: Pick out your tire!
When picking out a tire for a tire swing, remember: “Bigger is not always better.” When making a tire swing, medium sized to small tires usually work better! Large tires can cause limbs to get stuck in them and they also tend to weigh more. After you find the right tire, make sure you drill holes in the bottom to allow water to drain.
Step 2: Attach eye-bolts
On the top side of the tire, drill pilot holes a little bit smaller than the bolts and attach eye-bolts in a triangle pattern. Make sure they are evenly spaced!
Attach an S-hook to each eye-bolt, Clamp down each S-hook with vice-grips.
Step 3: Attach Chains
Attach a 3 foot chain to each of the S-hooks. Now clamp down the side of the S-hook attached to the chain with vice-grips, similar to before.
Step 4: Attach top S-hook
Next attach the 3 chains to the top S-hook. Clampdown the end of the S-hook connected to the chains with vice- grips.
Step 5: Attach top hardware
Next we attach the swivel to the S-hook; Then the connector link to the swivel; Then the clip to the connector link.
Step 6: Hang the tire swing!
Use a chain (we used a 12 foot chain) to hang from a tree limb or wherever you want to hang your new swing. Close the chain with a connector link, and then clip your newly fashioned tire swing to the chain hanging from the tree!
After all is said and done, you have yourself a brand new, homemade tire swing that is perfect for summer fun and reliving those days when you were kid!
