How-To Winterize Your RV

Method 1

(Anti-freeze requirements: 2-4 gallons)

  • Drain entire water system including water heater.
  • Close off all drains and faucets.
  • By-pass water heater.
  • All water heaters have an inlet on the bottom and an outlet on top.
  • Take inlet and outlet lines off of water heater.
  • Couple the inlet line and the outlet line together. This by-passes the water heater. CAUTION: DO NOT CROSS THREAD LINES!!
  • Pour anti-freeze into system.
  • Activate pump.
  • Open all the faucets one at a time until anti-freeze comes through line, then close off and go to next faucet.
  • Make sure to put anti-freeze through all appliances that use water including toilet, shower, faucets, etc.
  • With system still pressurized, go to outside water entry and depress check value so that anti-freeze will enter it.
  • Turn off pump.
  • Your entire water system is now winterized and ready.

WARNING: If at any time water is reintroduced into the system, the entire winterizing process must be repeated!

Method 2

(Anti-freeze requirements: 8-14 gallons)

  • Drain entire system including water heater.
  • Close off all drains and faucets.
  • Pour anti-freeze into system.
  • Open hot water side of faucet nearest water heater.
  • Activate pump.
  • When a full stream of anti-freeze comes from faucet, close off valve
  • Open all faucets one at a time until anti-freeze comes through line, then close off and go to next faucet.
  • Make sure to put anti-freeze through all appliances that use water.
  • With system still pressurized, go to outside water entry and depress check valve so that anti-freeze will enter it.
  • Turn off pump.
  • Your entire water system is now winterized.
